The High Commission promotes bilateral relations across diplomatic, economic, cultural, and social spheres, while providing essential consular services to Sri Lankan citizens in India and supporting people-to-people engagement between the two nations.

Sri Lanka’s presence in New Delhi began in 1942 as the Representative Office of Ceylon, led by Sir D. B. Jayathilake, and was established as a High Commission in 1948 after independence.
